After years of watching some of SA’s brightest and best talents push off to Australia, Parker’s Comedy is glad to announce a brief reversal of the trend. For two weeks in August 2010, the convict continent will be sending one of its finest talents to us, as Joe Parker proudly presents outrageous comedy legend Kevin Bloody Wilson on his third South African tour, where he’ll be visiting Jo’burg, Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Port Elizabeth, East London and Nelspruit in just 12 days!
A cult star in SA for over twenty-five years, Wilson earned his following in the gloomy 1980’s. His earthy lyrics and unashamedly blokey songs might have been banned by straight-laced South African broadcast censors, but that didn’t stop them spreading like wildfire on countless illegally-copied cassettes!
Thanks to this Aussie original’s irrepressibly cheeky songs, a generation grew up knowing how to berate Santa Claus for delivering substandard Christmas presents, or how to ask a girl the important questions, like if her dad owns a brewery and if she’s, er, fun on first dates… Needless to say, those aren’t the words he uses – in fact, it’s best that maiden aunts and other easily offended types are warned about Kevin’s language well in advance.
On his first visit to these shores in 1997, despite relying almost entirely on word-of-mouth publicity, Kevin sold out wherever he performed – sports clubs, town halls and pubs were all chock-a-block. He toured again in 2008 and sold out venues from Carnival City to GrandWest. Fans should book early because we’re expecting the same response this time round – especially as this bawdy legend has timed his visit to coincide with Tri-Nations madness! In fact, the Wallabies play the Springboks in Pretoria on 28th August and in Bloemfontein a week later, so it’ll make a nice change to have an Aussie around that we don’t mind cheering for…
