Go behind the scenes of Springbok rugby with Pieter de Villiers at Emnotweni Casino
Nelspruit rugby fans will have a rare opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes, no-holds-barred glimpse of what happens behind the scenes of Springbok rugby when national coach Pieter de Villiers talks at Emnotweni Arena on Wednesday, 20 October 2010.
Emnotweni Casino and Worldsport Promotions have collaborated to bring the colourful and controversial coach to Nelspruit to address rugby fans. De Villiers will speak about what happens behind the veil when coaching the national rugby team. He will also share some of his experiences during his tenure as coach and important life lessons he has learned from being in the sporting spotlight.
De Villiers was announced as the first black coach of the Springbok rugby team in 2008, succeeding Jake White. Over the past couple of years, he has been the centre of a few media wrangles due to some of his off-the-cuff and often brazen remarks. He recently found himself in the firing line for comments he made insinuating that the All Blacks were being assisted by referees in the Tri-Nations to help bolster excitement for the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand.
Whether you like him or not, there’s no denying that Bok coach Pieter de Villiers is a colourful character who is not afraid to speak his mind. Being the coach of the world champion rugby team is not for the feint-hearted and de Villiers has proven time and time again that feint-hearted he is not.
As couch-based coaches and referees we often have lots to say of the tactics and decisions of those at the coalface, but few of us really understand what it really takes to be in those positions. If you’ve ever wondered about what goes on behind the scenes in the Springbok camp and what it’s like to be the SA rugby coach, here’s your chance to find out from someone who knows.
“It promises to be an enlightening and entertaining evening. Don’t miss it,” urges Emnotweni Casino’s General Manager, Ig Olivier.
There are only 300 seats available and tickets are already moving fast. Tickets are being sold through WorldSport Promotions (013 712 3177)and Emnotweni Casino at R85 per person. There will be a cash bar available.
Aside from the sneak peak into SA rugby and the mind of the man who has been at the team’s helm for the past two years, there will also be live entertainment by popular local artist, Dieter Uken.
